SPEAKER: The Honourable Catherine Branson QC, President of the Human Rights and Equal Opportunity Commission

The Council of Christians and Jews NSW Inc invites you to attend the launch of its publication, "Broken Glass, Unbroken Memories", an anthology of speeches, images and history, about what is generally regarded as the commmencement of the Holocaust, The Night of Broken Glass - 9 November 1938.

This work, endorsed and compiled by academics, historians and clerics for the benefit of the CCJNSW,  has been compiled from a variety of sources, at a time seventy years since this tragic and frightening event occurred.

It is a work which is an educational tool for schools and other institutions, putting perspective to such world events and enable students of history and religion to better understand the background to, and effects of, such a tumultuous event.

We are privileged to have the Honourable Catherine BransonQC, President of the Human Rights and Equal Opportunity Commission speaking on the occasion of the launch of the book.

President Branson is a noted Human Rights suppporter, and a Judge of the Federal Court of Australia. Justice Branson was the inaugural convenor of the Federal Court’s Equality and the Law Committee, which was created in 1997. She was also the inaugural convenor of the Court’s Human Rights Panel for New South Wales.

She has spoken extensively on human rights, social justice, the rights of minorities, and refugee issues.

The Jewish community world wide, has always remembered with fear and trepidation, steps taken against them, especially those which in Germany in 1938, culminated in Kristallnacht - The Night of Broken Glass.

To understand is to remember, and to remember is to present it to others so that they too might learn from such terrible events.

We are most appreciative of the venue having been arranged through the good offices of the Speaker of the House, The Honourable John Aquilina.

We look forward to you joining with us, for an early evening of history, remembrance, and learning.
